Activity Leader Mineral Prospectivity & Prediction
Geoscience Australia, Australia

Arianne Ford is a geoscientist whose focus is on the use of spatial statistics and machine learning for evaluating mineral potential using mineral systems-based approaches and how to effectively overcome the practical challenges faced. She joined Geoscience Australia in 2022 and is currently leading the mineral potential mapping activities as a Principal Research Scientist and has previously worked extensively in both academia and industry. She holds an undergraduate degree in computer science and a PhD in economic geology.

Towards a national inventory of Australia’s mineral potential

Development of new critical minerals and strategic materials projects will be key for the transition to net zero and to support diversification of supply chains. As part of the Resourcing Australia’s Prosperity initiative, Geoscience Australia will be developing a national inventory of mineral potential for all critical minerals and strategic materials, which will be used to support exploration and government decision-making. The talk will present on the progress made under the previous Exploring for the Future program, and how this will be expanded upon in the new 35-year work program.
